To Find Surgeons In Lap Band Surgery Houston Should Be Prioritized

By Peter Wright

Many weight management options have been invented to counter the problem of obesity, which continues to plague the world on all continents. Surgical options have also come up strongly as viable ways of solving the problem of obesity. Lap band surgery helps to manage weight by using laparoscopic adjustable gastric band. These bands are also referred to as LAGB, A band, or lap-band whereas the procedure itself also goes by the name gastric banding. When in need of medical practitioners who specialize in lap band surgery Houston should be among the first places to check out.

LAGB is made of silicone and capable of being inflated with saline solution. Its work is to reduce the capacity of the stomach when it is inserted on it. When the capacity of the stomach is reduced, one can only eat a limited amount of food. This reduces obesity. The stomach feels full after taking a light meal.

During the surgical operation, several small incisions are made into the stomach for inserting surgical tools and camera. The LAGB ring is then inserted on the upper section of the stomach. There is a thin tube connecting to the LAGB ring. The tube runs from the ring to an access port placed under the skin. Saline is added to or drawn from the ring through the access port.

The capacity of the stomach is reduced by adding saline into the ring so that it becomes tight. When saline is reduced from the LAGB, it loosens up, expanding the size of the stomach. During surgery, the LAGB cannot be inflated. Inflation is done after full recovery has been achieved. After healing, which takes four to six weeks, the ring is inflated with saline.

The process may be painful, which may prompt a local anesthesia to be administered. One may feel some discomfort and soreness in their stomach. Taking some painkillers may help with this problem. One is encouraged to remain active to help with the healing process. One day after the surgery, an x-ray may need to be done to check if everything is okay.

Foods that one can eat and the ones they need to avoid are usually specified by the doctor. Within the first two weeks after operation, patients are required to eat liquid foods only. It is important to take a lot of water to avoid dehydration. The addition of solid food into the diet should be done in small bits. One must ensure that they chew food properly before they swallow. Additionally, the instance one feels full, they should stop immediately.

Abdominal discomfort and nausea occur commonly when too much food is eaten. Weight is lost in a gradual and steady manner. It is necessary to go for regular medical checkups. This is to verify if everything is working right. Unexpected weight loss can be regulated by adjusting the LAGB. Continual weight loss for over three years has been observed in some people.

After the surgery, people experience a wide range of emotions. The steady loss of weight brings happiness and excitement in most people. However, the need to change diet and lifestyle often causes frustration. Any concerns one may have should be discussed with the doctor.
