TRANSFORMATION CHALLENGE WINNER: Jennifer Lost 2st 3lbs & WON £1000 Cash!

Customer Jennifer was unhappy about her weight. She felt uncomfortable when her kids would hug her, she couldn’t run around with them & she had no energy. She had tried countless other diets with no success. Thankfully, she discovered The New You Plan. Knowing that she needed a complete break from conventional food, she started the plan and lost 2st 3lbs in 10 weeks. She also entered our Transformation Challenge and WON £1000 Cash!

Here is her story…

New You: Why did you decide to join the challenge?

Jennifer: Definitely for accountability. When I took my first photos and posted them in Secret Slimmers, it was to say: “Look, this is me and I want to lose this”. Then, when I posted again in the middle of my transformation, people were like: “Oh, my God, you’re doing amazing. You look so different.” I thought, this is what I need to do. I need to take pictures. I need to be able to visualise my body changing. When New You was reminding people to send in their photos I started thinking… “Do I want to do that? Do I want to put myself out there”? And then, the more people were complimenting me I thought to myself: “I do look good. I do look different. I have changed”. That’s when I decided to just go for it. I can’t actually believe I won.

New You: Was there anything that helped you stay on-track while doing the challenge?

Jennifer: I have been really focused on it. I did 10 full weeks on total food replacement with no blips. I think that being in Secret Slimmers helps – everyone is on the same journey and they’re all so kind. If someone posted that they were struggling and I was able to help them, I think that helped me as well, because it reminded me to take my own advice.

New You: Throughout the challenge, were there any milestones that you hit?

Jennifer: Being able to fit into all my old clothes. There’s pretty much nothing I own now that I can’t fit into. In fact some of it is too small. I don’t know if you’re like this, but I keep clothes for years.

Some of the clothes I was wearing, just a few months ago, were shapeless. I was swamping myself in baggy tops and trousers because I wanted to hide my body. I think it actually made me look bigger than I was because I was trying to cover myself up so much. Whereas now, sometimes I think I don’t know what to wear because I can wear anything.

New You: So tell us, how much weight have you lost?

Jennifer: I’ve lost 2st 3lbs in 10 weeks and kept it off. I did two weeks of SWITCH after that because I was going on holiday. Then I had my holiday, came back, lost the holiday weight straight away and I’ve maintained for 6 weeks now.

New You: We’d love to know how you heard about the plan!

Jennifer: One of my friends, told me about it. She had already lost about a stone and I could tell she looked different so I asked her. She told me about the plan and everything.

I’d done other diets where you would have two shakes and then a healthy meal. My issue was always that if I was having any other food, it was hard to control the portions and count calories. Whereas when she described New You, you just literally have four packs and you can have a snack and that’s it. You don’t need to worry about what calories are in anything. I don’t have time for counting calories, weighing or measuring things so New You sounded perfect. I never lost any weight on those other types of plans because I’d always overeat on the bit where I could make my own meal. For me this is it, you don’t stray from these products. That was just perfect for me.

Getting started…

New You: What led to you starting the plan?

Jennifer: I felt like I was just uncomfortable. None of my clothes really fitted properly. It sounds really sad, but even when my children were giving me a hug, I felt uncomfortable. I didn’t want people to touch me. I just didn’t feel right in my own skin. And I’ve been up and down with my weight all my life, but I had put on more after having my last baby. And I felt it was all around my stomach so whenever my kids would come up and give me a big hug, it would make me feel really sad. I think when I look back at pictures of myself, I look sad in every single one and it makes me feel a bit emotional, to be honest. I felt like I was just boring Mum. I couldn’t do anything with my kids because I just didn’t have the energy.

I’ve got a little one who, she’s 18 months now and getting down on the floor with her hurt my knees. I just felt like I couldn’t be a good, active Mum. The kids would ask me if I wanted to kick the football around with them and I’d find an excuse not to as I physically didn’t have the energy. You would think with how much I was eating then, that I’d have loads of energy, but I was just sluggish and slow and tired all the time.

I’m in my 40s and around midlife you start to think about your health. I could see myself heading for heart disease and diabetes. I was medically obese so I knew they were on the horizon. It was scary to think of that, and being in my 40s and having a young baby as well, I wanted to be healthy and be around for my kids.

New You: And tell us about that first week…

Jennifer: The day before I started, I had a migraine and it was horrendous. I tried to use it as an excuse not to start the next day. But then something just clicked in the head and I knew I had to start. Because next week I could have a cold or feel a bit under the weather. There’s always going to be a million excuses.

My first week, I was just on a power through. I didn’t struggle, but I think because I was in the right mindset, I wasn’t hungry. I was just so focused. I kept my mind focused on my goal. I knew I just had to get through the first week and it would get easier.

New You: What are your go-to meals & snacks?

Jennifer: I love the chocolate brownie. I have worked out the perfect cooking time, and this is a big thing in Secret Slimmers – this debate over how to make the perfect brownie, and I love it. Most days I will have one of those. Then the other favourite is the Chocolate Muesli, which I didn’t think I’d like at all.

Life changing…

New You: How would you say the plan has changed your life?

Jennifer: I feel like I’ve got more energy, I feel younger. I feel probably better than when I was in my thirties, energy level-wise. I’ve got a child that doesn’t sleep through the night, but I’ve still got that get up and go. I’d completely lost that. I can get on the floor to play with my little one. I can chase her around, which she loves. I’ve even let my nine-year-old try to teach me how to do a cartwheel. I no longer feel uncomfortable when the kids hug me. I’m setting myself up for a healthy life. I feel like it has completely transformed my life.

New You: What is the nicest compliment you have received since losing weight?

Jennifer: One of my daughter’s friends came over for a play day and his mum just looked me up and down and went, “Oh, my God, what have you been doing all summer? Have you just been exercising constantly?” When I said that I hadn’t been doing any exercise at all she said that I looked really fit. And I think that was the biggest compliment, because I think you can lose weight, but not necessarily feel fit. But I do feel fit. Obviously, I’m running around with the kids more, but I’m not going to the gym. But she thought I’d been absolutely hammering it in the gym or something like that.

New You: What would you say to someone thinking of starting the plan?

Jennifer: I’d obviously say to go for it – look at the results people have achieved. You’ve got to be in the right mindset. You’ll find a million reasons not to do it, but you need to focus on what your reasons are. And they’re so personal, the reasons. Some people want to look good and feel good. Some people want to lose weight for health reasons. You need to keep your reason at the forefront of your mind, because for some people, they are going to be hungry. Some people are going to struggle because they’re used to eating big amounts. I was. I’m an over eater, absolutely. I think if you can get your head in the right place, and you really want to do, then you’ll smash it.

Join Secret Slimmers. Just soak up the advice, even if you don’t want to post yourself. There’s so many inspiring people in the group.

I would say that you need to get your mind in the right place, ditch your excuses and join Secret Slimmers.

New You: And then finally, what’s next?

Jennifer:

I’m happy where I am for now. I think I could lose another 10lbs to a stone. That would take me well into the healthy range for my weight, so I would like to do that. But I’m currently trying the SWITCH version of the plan.

Some weeks I’ve been doing 4 days on full plan and then 3 days off. I’m playing around with it at the minute to see what works for me. I imagine that in the run up to Christmas, I will be back on the plan fully to shift the last of it. I also want to start exercising. I always feel so inspired by Anne-Marie in Secret Slimmers and what she has achieved. Now that I’ve got this energy I feel that I could do it.

Cells: The Building Blocks of Life

Cells: The Building Blocks of Life The human body contains millions of cells that rely on healthy nutrition like proteins, vitamins and minerals. While the body can create some of these nutrients, it also requires essential vitamins and minerals from food sources. Every living organism depends on its cells to function normally. Often referred to as “the building blocks of life,” cells are the biological, structural and functional units that carry out tasks in an organism. A collection of cells working together is called a tissue, while a series of tissues performing organized functions are called organs. The human body contains trillions of cells, all with varying tasks that help support bodily organs; these include skin cells, nerve cells, blood cells, barrier function cells (supporting the lungs, gut) and more. Cells rely on good nutrition for energy production and to prevent oxidative damage. The anatomy of a cell Cells in the human body are so tiny that they are invisible to th...
