Tips For Using DIY Kits Of Duracoat Aerosol

By Kathrine Franks

Gun enthusiasts want the best when it comes to protecting their firearms and customized finishes. Especially when those finishes include ferrous metals, wood, stainless steel, synthetics, and alloys. There is no heating or baking required. Here are a few tips on using DuraCoat Aerosol, and be sure to ask your Lawrence, KS supplier about Peel 'N Spray templates.

Some people like a smooth finish and others like some other type of texture. Just about any surface is possible with these products ranging from camo to a pearl texture. It is even possible to create layers of texture and then finish them off with a protective coating of the clear product to reduce dings and scratches.

One of the nice things about this product is the hardener that comes with it. The aerosol can is a can within a can and allows putting the hardener in without making a huge mess. The usual ratio of 12 parts DuraCoat to 1 part hardener, and greatly speeds up the drying process. Change the ratio to 10:1 for a higher glossy finish that shines like brand new.

When using templates that stick on the weapon, be sure to remove any residual adhesive materials before applying the product. A clean, dry rag and some mineral spirits will free up and remove the adhesive without damaging the project. Any residue left behind causes bubbles and other distortions that blemish the surface.

For the fastest drying time, many gun owners use a heat setting of 110 degrees F for about 1 hour to speed up the process and reassemble their weapons. Once the surface is completely dry most cleaners, abrasive solvents and lubricants will not harm the new finish. For best results allow three to six weeks for full drying and curing.

For people who want to colorize their guns, DuraCoat comes in over 200 different colors, and you can mix those to get an exact match of shade you want. Just think of all the possibilities of identifying a weapon just by its color and texture. Not to mention being proud of the choices of hues and designs.

The most important part of the whole process is to clean the weapon and all its parts. Dismantle it and place the parts in some order that help you remember how they go when putting the gun back together. DuraClean is excellent because it removes all grease, grime, dust, dirt and any other debris without even leaving a film.

Always dismantle a gun for safety reasons before attempting to clean it, repair it, or refinish it. Make sure all compartments have no ammunitions in them. Check the cylinder, the bullet clip and chamber to make sure the gun is unloaded. Then dismantle it and mask off any areas not intended for DuraCoat before spraying the product on the pieces.

Even the smallest speck of dust can render a firearm useless if lodged in an area of tight tolerances and precision accuracy. It is important to keep all firearms properly cleaned and maintained for maximum safety. Ask your local gun store owner about the benefits of protective coatings that help ensure enjoyable gun ownership.

While the body can create some of these nutrients, it also requires essential vitamins and minerals from food sources. Every living organism depends on its cells to function normally. Often referred to as “the building blocks of life,” cells are the biological, structural and functional units that carry out tasks in an organism. A collection of cells working together is called a tissue, while a series of tissues performing organized functions are called organs. The human body contains trillions of cells, all with varying tasks that help support bodily organs; these include skin cells, nerve cells, blood cells, barrier function cells (supporting the lungs, gut) and more.
