Embarking on a transformative journey often begins with a single, courageous step. For Beverley, that step was joining The New You Plan, a decision that has profoundly reshaped her life and earned her a runner-up spot in the Fall Focus Transformation Challenge, along with a £1000 cash prize. From years of battling self-doubt and fluctuating weight to achieving an astounding loss of nearly 7st*, Beverley’s story is one of resilience, self-discovery, and empowerment.
Her journey is not just about numbers on a scale but about reclaiming her zest for life and embracing a renewed sense of confidence and vitality. In this inspiring conversation, Beverley shares her triumphs, struggles, and the life-changing impact of her weight loss journey with The New You Plan.
Cat: How did you feel when you found out you were a runner up?
Beverley: Honestly, talk about over the moon! I couldn’t believe it when I got that call. Doesn’t Nicola have the best job in the world?! I’d love that – ringing people up and telling them they’ve won money. I’d absolutely love it. It was just surreal. I’d seen adverts and I’d been getting emails about the Transformation Challenge and I just thought I’d enter. And I’m proud of myself. I’ve done really well. But I wasn’t expecting to hear anything, so it was a lovely surprise. It was just really nice, and I’ve been buzzing ever since.
Getting started…
Cat: How did you feel before starting the plan?
Beverley: I’m 54 and I’ve been on a diet since I was 11. I’ve done everything known to man, and I always lose weight but struggle to keep it off, simply because there’s something deep inside me that feels like I’m not good enough.
And I think it comes from being encouraged to lose weight aged 11. As much as my parents love me to death, I know that they would never have wanted me to feel this way. Over the years, I have lost stones and stones in weight and piled it all back on again. I lost over 7st, 12 years ago with Slimming World. I became a district manager for them, and I worked for them for over 4 years. But during those 4-years, I went through a lot of stress, and I quickly put weight on to the point where I felt like a fraud. I was supposed to be an ambassador for the company, and yet I’ve put all this weight on. That’s when I realised that different diets do different things for you. That one in particular, teaches you about “free” food, and it makes you think you can eat as much as you want. So then when you get back to normal eating, you actually eat too much.
I left the company in 2018 and I’m not working in that industry any longer. But I know so much about weight loss and the nutrition side of it. And I knew that for me, it was about trying to get everything under control.
A couple of weeks before I started the plan, I was going to a wedding and I sat down with my husband. I was waiting to get ready, knowing I’d got a lovely beautiful dress that was going cover a multitude of sins, but feeling like sh*t. I didn’t want to go out. I felt miserable. I was worried about seeing his friends from work, wondering what they thought of me.
That morning, I said to him: “I am at my wit’s end. I feel so desperate and fed up”. I got really upset. I told him about The New You Plan and he said: “Whatever you need, whatever you want, just go and do it. You’ve got my support. I just want you to be happy.”
Cat: Why did you choose The New You Plan?
Beverley: In August 2021, I was 20st 10lbs. As we were coming out of the second bout of COVID I just knew I had to do something. So I went on a low carb, low fat diet, lost about 5 or 6 stone, and then menopause kicked in.
And so I started on HRT and I was continuing to put on weight. Then I saw some adverts on Facebook for The New You Plan and so I decided to give it a go.
When I started, I was 17st 12lbs, and I lost 9lbs in the first week.
New You: Tell us about a typical day on plan.
Beverley: When I was starting and I was completely fully on plan, I would have 4 meals and 4 litres of water a day. And then I started adding in a snack here and there.
I would normally always have breakfast, but I found that once I got into ketosis, I wasn’t feeling hungry, so I’d have a couple of black coffees, get onto the water and have 2 litres down by lunchtime. Then, I’d have a Shake. When I got home from work, I’d have a double meal, such as double Spaghetti Bolognese, Vegetable Chilli or Risotto. And then I’d have something that felt naughty afterwards like a Bar or the Chocolate Brownie, and that would be my packs for the day.
I love that the plan just fits in with my working life as well, which I think is so important. Everything’s so easy to just ping in a microwave. I’ve just found it dead easy.
Life changing results…
Cat: Why does it feel different this time?
Beverley: So where I feel different this time, is that I can use the packs now. If you have a weekend away or you’ve got something on, you can always bring things back under control by getting back on plan. And that’s making me feel quite excited because I feel like I’ve got all the tools I need to control this for as long as I need to!
Earlier this year, I went to the doctors. I just wanted to make sure that the doctor was happy with me doing something like this. My mum had diabetes, and she died 13 years ago, aged 72. The doctor told me that my blood sugar levels were on the high side of normal, and it’s only going in one direction. So I knew I had the plan and I needed to do it. I wasn’t getting any younger, I’m 54 and I needed to take control and crack on with it.
That’s been my mindset all the way through. Even in those early days when it can be quite tricky and you’ve really got to dig deep, I kept the the reason I was doing it was at the front of my mind. It wasn’t about fitting into a size 14. It was about actually prolonging my health or being able to enjoy being healthy.
The weight’s just been falling off. I’ve lost nearly 7st now as of yesterday morning. My target is to lose 7st 2lbs, which is 100lbs, so I’m not that far off it.
Cat: How has your life changed since losing weight?
Beverley: I’ve got a strong work ethic, so even when I’m not feeling well, I drag myself in. But at the same time, every spare moment that I had at home, I’d take the dogs out, but then I’d be on settee all weekend. I had no zest for life. I wasn’t doing anything. My husband was starting to feel frustrated with it. He loves me as I am, but he likes the sparkle and so do I. Now, I’m a much nicer person to be around. I’m more fun. I’ve got more energy. I’m active, and I find myself running up the stairs without realising it and looking back thinking, I’m not out of breath.
Quite regularly, my waking thought was I hate myself. I hate my body. I hate myself. And my waking thought now is I’m proud of myself. I feel that I can do anything now. I feel confident now. I’ve got my mojo back.
Cat: What’s been your favourite non-scale victory so far?
Beverley: Well I had a non-scale victory this morning because I bought myself my first pair of size 12 jeans. Have you ever watched the Olympics with the weightlifting when they do the clean and jerk?! That’s what putting trousers on has always been like for me. It’s like exercise! And, in March this year, I was doing that in size 26. This morning, I put the size 12s on and, I can’t pretend I wasn’t running around upstairs going: “yeah!!!”
Reflecting on the plan…
Cat: What’s next on your weight loss journey?
Beverley: I’m hoping that in the next couple of weeks, I’ll have reached my target weight. I’ll be where I want to be – quite happy at 10st 10lbs, with a BMI of about 23.9 BMI.
Cat: How has your mindset changed?
Beverley: I haven’t been 10st 10lbs for as long as I can remember. It’s been more than 20 years and, I just want to be healthy. I just want to be active, and I just want to enjoy my life. And I’ve been doing that, and I’ve been feeling so optimistic right from the word go because as soon as I got through those first few days, I thought this is a doddle. It’s so easy to follow. There’s so much support. The Facebook group is just so motivational, helpful and inspiring.
You can get a lot by working with other people to lose weight, but you don’t necessarily have to be in the same room as them. You just have to be on the same page as them. And because we’re all together, it’s been a huge additional bonus for me. I’m telling everybody because I’ve never been as healthy from a vitamins and minerals point of view, because I’m getting everything I need. I don’t have to think about all of that. I know I’ll have to start thinking about that when I transition to Switch. But I know that the packs are going to help me keep everything in control, and I’m confident that I will and I’ve never felt like that before so that’s huge.
I’m creating the right conditions for myself to be successful going forward, and that’s something that I’ve not really done before. So I’m optimistic.
Cat: What would you say to anyone thinking of trying the plan?
Beverley: I would say you’re worth it, that it’s all there for you, and it just takes a few days of rolling with it, doing what it says, distracting yourself. And then you won’t look back because you’re never going to feel hungry again.
You deserve to feel good about yourself, and you deserve to be confident in social situations. You’re a beautiful person, and you deserve to take the positive steps that are going to improve your health and improve your life.
