Starting Her New You Journey

New You: What led to you wanting to lose weight?

Suzanne: Back in 2021 my husband had been very ill and I was his carer. After a long battle, he died in July 2021. Before he died, my mother was diagnosed with cancer and she died 8 months later. I was also looking after my brother who had MS and was bed bound.

During that time, especially after the passing of my husband and mother I turned to comfort food and the weight piled on.

Fast forward to December 2023 and on my 72nd birthday, I was in so much pain, I could hardly move. My doctor told me that this was normal – that I was getting old and put it down to the ageing process. Walking more than a few yards had me in agony and in tears. On my birthday a friend took a photo of me and when I saw it, I was horrified. I was shocked at how big I was. My arms were massive and my waist was in the 40s.

New You: Why did you choose The New You Plan?

Suzanne: My daughter was also grieving and put weight on weight as well. In January this year, we talked about dieting and she joined the Cambridge Diet. In February I saw an advert on Facebook for The New You Plan. After looking at the website and seeing how many varieties there were, I decided to try it. I lost 6lbs in my first week. By week 3 I had persuaded my daughter to ditch Cambridge and join me on The New You Plan. By week 12 I had lost 3 stone and I am now mostly maintaining by having 2 New You meals per day and one low calorie meal. If I have a cheat day, then the next day I go fully on plan. My daughter who was much heavier than me has lost 6 stone.

New You: And tell us about that first week…

Suzanne: My first week went vey well. I was hungry during the first three days hungry but after that, it was easy.

New You: What are your go-to meals & snacks?

Suzanne: I love the Apple and Cinnamon biscuits! They’re great with a cuppa.

Life Changing Results…

How would you say the plan has changed your life?

Suzanne: The biggest change is that I can now walk miles without pain. I feel like going back to my doctor and saying “Hey it’s not old age, take a look at me now!” I also love wearing dresses, which I never did before. I’m 72, a grandmother of 5 and a great grandmother of 4 and I’m feeling great!

New You: What has being on plan taught you so far?

Suzanne: Being on plan has taught me that my portions were far too big! You didn’t need to eat as much as I was to feel full and satisfied. I’ve also learned that I can still enjoy a little of what I love and go back on plan to offset it.

New You: What are you most looking forward to when you reach your goal?

Suzanne: Losing 3 stone was my original goal as I haven’t been 12 stone in 20 years. I’ve achieved that so now I want to slowly lose a further stone. That would be bring me to 11 stone and it’s at least 30 years since I was that weight!

New You: Any memorable non-scale victories you’d like to share?

Suzanne: Being able to wear clothes both old and new! There was no way I would have worn that orange dress previously. It’s nice to be able to wear what I like and feel comfortable and confident at 72.

New You: What is the nicest compliment you have received since losing weight?

Suzanne: I’ve been told many times now that I look 20 years younger. When I’m with my 32 year old grand daughter people think I must be her mum – I’m 73 this December! I get compliments everywhere I go. We joined English Heritage in the summer and when I asked for the OAP rate, I was looked at with raised eyebrows. When I showed my ID I was met with compliments and “OMG how come you look so young?!”

New You: If you could go back in time to when you were beginning the plan, what piece of advice would you give yourself?

Suzanne: Make sure you order lots of different packs. Variety is the best way to discover your favourites. I was on the plan 12 weeks before I found my favourite Mexican Tacos!

Whether you want to lose half a stone or 10 stone*, have a slimmer figure, or are just looking to get maximum nutrition in minimum time, then New You can make the perfect partner to get you to where you want to be.

Cells: The Building Blocks of Life

Cells: The Building Blocks of Life The human body contains millions of cells that rely on healthy nutrition like proteins, vitamins and minerals. While the body can create some of these nutrients, it also requires essential vitamins and minerals from food sources. Every living organism depends on its cells to function normally. Often referred to as “the building blocks of life,” cells are the biological, structural and functional units that carry out tasks in an organism. A collection of cells working together is called a tissue, while a series of tissues performing organized functions are called organs. The human body contains trillions of cells, all with varying tasks that help support bodily organs; these include skin cells, nerve cells, blood cells, barrier function cells (supporting the lungs, gut) and more. Cells rely on good nutrition for energy production and to prevent oxidative damage. The anatomy of a cell Cells in the human body are so tiny that they are invisible to th...
